what to choose (or not to)

On some days, when I don’t have to try to find stillness within me because it presents itself effortlessly...

I think.

(I know, wild)

I think about why am I the person I am, why do I think and act the way I do, like where does the predisposition to be “this person” comes from? And why do I make the choices that I make…

Pretty Early on in life, we are encouraged to choose the path of least resistance, to avoid any chaos that might bring suffering, mostly because humans are inherently inclined towards comfort and aren’t exactly 'trained' to deal with the ambiguity of life.

But if you really think about it… the path of least resistance is a myth, you know like an idealised concept that nobody seems to have achieved.

The whole idea of the path of least resistance rests on the fact that there is something to “resist in life”, or there is an “easy” way out, but really there are just choices we make and consequences of them, because the experiences we have are neutral in nature and it is our ability to decipher them that sets them apart as an easy or difficult one.

Which brings to light the idea that, we are often made to believe that external experiences and situations create who we are, but we fail to realise that the filter through which we make sense of the world lies within, as a silent dialogue between us and our lives.

You see when you choose an experience in order to avoid or escape another, you are viewing life as an experience that is 'out to get you' and you feel the need to delegate, in order to make the supposed “right choice”.

Which makes me wonder, how do we define our “rights”?

For which it’s important to understand what emotion and intention are you operating on? What drives your decisions?

For me personally, I realised that for the longest time, my decisions and choices were influenced by trying to experience the least amount of emotional discomfort, which meant that I am operating from a place of hurt and fear. So now I choose to operate from a place of love and fearlessness.

I guess eventually, it turns out...

The right decision or choice has to be looked for in terms of how much love, joy and fulfilment it brings me, rather than the amount of suffering it might cause… because that’s like accepting defeat before entering the game.

(And mama didn’t raise no quitter)

And as for the path of least resistance, the day we stop looking for it, is the day life becomes easier to understand, because you’re no longer trying to avoid the “unpleasantness of life” or trying to compromise on your participation in it.

life is not passive, or in the background of your existence, but is very much there holding your hand, asking you to participate in all the things that it has to show you.

Alrighty.

Talk to you soon.
